The impact of ethical consumption on China

Nowadays,as more and more developed countries are concerned more about ethical and environmental consumption,China has also been influenced by this trend. Undoubtedly, the concept of ethical consumption will influence China’s economic and social development significantly.Furthermore, some effects are positive,while others are negative.
The ethical consumption will benefit China a lot to a large extend. Firstly, this consumption may alleviate the environmental burden of China and ensure its sustainable development.As a developing country under industrilized process,China has already suffered from the environmental challenge that many developed countries faced before. That is, to sustain the economical development at the cost of environment. Moreover, such problems have already brought in many troubles in people’s daily life:Some people is getting cancer because they depend on the polluted water source. Some lands are losing their value because of the abuse of inorganic farming method; Some forests aare disppearing from the earth as the one-time chopsticks are welcome ubiquitously.
Therefore, if there is a lack of healthy concept like ethical consumption,China will lose its developing potential as man people just pursue short-sighted benefits and convenience. Only if there are more eyes on the importance of ethical consumption can such troubles of unbalanced environmental be overcome. Otherwise, if the problem cannot be handled, the environmental proble will become a threshold for China’s development sooner or later. Additionally, as the negative effects of pollution cannot be removed completely in most cases, China may have no method when it realizes the seriousness of the problem. Secondly, ethical consumption can enhance the competitiveness of Chinese product. As most developed countries did before, China is only concentrating on large-scale manufacturing but not on the environment. As a result, many kinds of Chinese products have potential threats to the environment as most of them cannot meet the enronmental demand. Because of this, several kinds of Chinese products are refused by Europe and USA.For example, the products of a famous company were rejected by a European country five years ago. The reason why the products were blocked is that the sofas cannot meet the demand of environment. By chance, I have visited the product line of the company. To tell the truth, the scientific and enronmental level are low in the factory. Besides, many workers are always under the threat of health problem during their production. Moreover, the products contain a large amount of chemical substances which may result in cancer. Therefore, the products will be rejected for sure. Only when the ethical consumption become a common sense can such Chinese countries realize the environmental factor and enhance the corresponding aspects. After that, the brand “Made in China “ will turn green and become popular.
However, it may also have many negative effects on Chinese economic development. Firstly, it will undermine the price advantage of Chinese products. Chinese products are prevailing over the world., since China has the cheapest workforce and raw material However, there are against the principle of ethical consumption. Therefore, Chinese product could lose price advantage partailly. In addition, if a typical Chinese company wants to meet the environmental demand,it should put a lot of effects to improve its products line. However, it needs a lot of capital. Hence, there will be a long way for China to accept ethical consumption.
To sum up, ethical consumption will have both positive and negative effects on China. Nevertheless, China will become a environmentally-friendly industry country with the help of it. Hence, it should be welcome.

"May the force be with you!" It is one of the most famous sentences in the movie. Although it seems to be naive, I like the movie series of Star Wars. From the series, I derive a lot of things about the meaning of life and the importance of emotion.
"There is no emotion, there is the peace!" It is a famous slogan in the gospel of the Jedi,which is also the most sentence I appreciate. No matter how serious a situation is, peace is the most potent medicine. Even though an apparently impossible mission is on the way, you should face it peacefully. Only with peace can you make the wisest judgement and then generate the most efficient plan to solve it. There is an impressive scene deeply in my mind: In the <>, the famous jedi, Obiwan encountered Darth Vader, used to be his previous apprentice but later turn to the dark sith,in the empire's death star full of the enemy's soldiers.
This is the battle that he will lose his life for sure even if he defeat the strong sith in front of him. However, he fight with a peaceful heart but not fear and anger. Because of his performance, Luke,the only hope of Jedi,got the precious time to retreat away from the death satellite. Till now, I am always shocked by his peace smile towards Luke just before his pass away; He can smile is because he only wants Luke to survive as he planed. From this, I learn that peace generate bravery and wisdom.
The control of the emotion is also a critical part in this series of movie. If a people cannot control his emotion, some negative feeling will emerge. When this occurs, it is important that he should not concentrate on it too much. If a people cannot let something go naturally, he will be implicted in dark feeling. Therefore, when something that seems to be a blackhole in life occurs, we should try not to be confused about it too much. Otherwise, the normal life will be influenced.
From the series of film, we can learn a lot of details about emotional control. Many scenes in that movie are very similar to the reality. If we can learn something from it, it will be helpful for us.

Problem and solution

Nowadays, it is of great important to enhance the awareness of the importance of emotional intelligence among undergraduate students. To acchieve this, many things can be done by NUS and Engineering Faculty. Firstly, Engineering Faculty can add some general education modules(GEM) about emotional intelligence to help students learn the importance of emotional intelligence. Moreover, some bonus marks of such modules can be set. By learning such GEMs, undergraduates will obtain the knowledge of emotional intelligence comprehensively during their study process. However, it may be not an effective way to help undergraduates. The undegraduates may just cram to the exam but ignore the details. Secondly, clubs about emotional intelligence can be set to help undergraduates. Through interesting acitivities and conversations, many undergraduates will benefit from them and be aware of the importance of emotional intelligence. However, as there are many clubs in NUS, this club will easily be ignored. Hence, its function will be limited. Lastly, NUS can print various brochures about emotional intelligence. It is certain that a number of students can get them. Obviously, most of them will learn about emotional intelligence. However, the cost is relatively high. To sum up, NUS and Engineering Faculty can take several measures to help students learn the importance of emotional intelligence.

Undoubtedly, emotional intelligence is one of the most indispendable features in daily life. It is a bridge of communication and a tool to keep oneself in a appropriate mood. Without the help of emotional intelligence, we cannot exist in a multicultural country like Singapore. Firstly, if there is no interpersonal communication, many deviations in cognition and mind cannot be eliminated. It is well known that there are several religions in Singapore. As they are all related to the belief and spirit, they may result in serious conflicts without proper commincation and understanding. Then, a harmonious society will collapse because of the escalation of religious conflicts. Therefore, without appropriate communication, the congitious deviations will exist and result in unexpected ending. Secondly, self-control is also of great important in a multicultural society. Obviously, there may be many things that you cannot understand with your value and cognition. When you encounter such things, you need to force youself to accept them to keep a stable and harmonious society. If everyone cannot tolerate others’ habit and thus insult mutually, the society will also be unrest. Hence, self-control is also an important thing in a multicultural society. In general, we need emotional intelligence in a multicultural society like Singapore.

Comparison between Peter the Great and Emperor KangXi

As we know, Peter the Great and Emperror KangXi are both famous politists in history. They contributed to Russia and China a lot and forged the power of these two great empires. However, the ways under which they lead their countries are different and thus the two great countries was influenced to a great extend. Firstly, Peter the Great was a creative leader willing to bring in new technologies and ethos,while KangXi was a conservetive ruler with a strong desire to block new stuffes. When Russia was under the rule of Peter the Great, the national institutes for science and technology was built. In additional, the fundamental of many new courses was established, although most of them were related to millitary demand. In contrast, KangXi was afraid of new technologies that may undermine his rule. Therefore, he blocked all commercial and scientific communication with foreign countries. Besides, Peter the Great was enthusiastic at expanding the so-called Great Russia Empire,whereas KangXi just wanted to solidify his rule of China. Because of Peter the Great, Russia was implicited in the confliction with Poland ,Sweden and Turkey. As a result, Russia grabbed the hegemony of northern and middle europe tightly and becomed much larger. By contrast, KangXi tried to soften the rebellion in China with political methods. Only when it was the very time would he depended on millitary power. From above-mentioned points, we can conclude that these two famous emperrors are different, although they are both wise emperrors.

The meaning of life

What is the meaning of life? It is a question that everyone should face. However, it is also an eternal puzzle to human being and any other creatures. Almost everyone ignores it in daily life, since it is that easy to forget. We are given life as a gift but few of us really consider it seriously. Therefore, the meaning of life is not itself. In my opinion, life is a process that lets us creat a diverse world and explore what we interest but not to understand it.
Life itself has no meaning. However, it is the creatures that owns life reflect the animation of life. In other words, the meaning of life depends on the way that different people treat it. According to the gospel of buddha, everyone starts to have their value of life when they are about 4 years old. After that, they start to expand their eyesight and step on their own pathes. Next, when they are mature enough to live on their own, they start to pursue for their dreams. As everyone has their own dreams, their orientations of life will be different. Because of that, a diverse world forms and so does the society. From a poor beggar to a cunning politist, they all contribute to the diversity of life. In addition, a multiform society forms due to the diversity of life. To this point, life is a random choice for everyone without any hierarchy. As a person make the choice about his life, he must play his part to keep the multiform society. Moreover, because of his behaivor in his life time, the diversity of life enhances. Therefore, the meaning of life is its diversity. Life offers us an opportunity to fabricate dreams and pursuits. In return, our choice of life establish the diversity of life.
Life is a short but complicated process. As everyone makes different choices, the styles and results may vary. However, the ultimate meaning of life is certain: It is a process to make the world diverse and wonderful. Perhaps after several samsaras, we will be tired of the life and go beyond of it. However, when we still want to stay in samsara and live in the world, we should follow the rule of it and make it diverse.
